Excessive Uncertainty

(and the compulsive to desire to clean, check or do things again and again)

Some people start having persistent or intrusive impulses, thoughts, images or ideas that make them ruminate many, many times over whether something is clean or safe, whether a task was done orderly or perfect enough or whether that task was finished. These thoughts make them feel uncertain and anxious and very uncomfortable.  In order to calm themselves down or prevent these thoughts, these people start washing things too many times, checking things like doorknobs, windows, buttons to make sure they are fastened tightly or Chinese characters to make sure they are written perfectly or they might just repeat a behavior or spoken phrase several times to make themselves feel good and safe.  Sometime these people find themselves constantly asking themselves questions or making lists in their minds, and sometimes these people even ask other people the same questions over and over again to make sure that they heard something correctly and have not forgotten anything.  This wouldn’t be much of a problem until it starts taking up too much time, so much time that it affects their jobs, their families and their ability to get through the day.

James Steed can teach people with the need to repeat something to relieve their excessive feeling of certainty 1) how to use self-hypnosis and regulated breathing to relax,  2)  how to reduce the number of perfectionistic ideas,  3) 文字方塊: how to hypnotically reduce or change the unconscious images and thoughts that make them feel anxious so they feel better and 4) how to train themselves to control their behavior until the feelings of uncertainty subsides, again and again until even the thoughts and images stop reappearing.  These people can learn to regain control of their thoughts and behaviors and start enjoying their lives.  They can regain confidence, become more adventurous and start having the time to do all they want to have a successful, fulfilling life.
